It's kind of ironic that Jefferson County
Public Health accepted help from the Master Builders Association of
King and Snohomish Counties, but now my opponent's supporters complain
when the MBA donates to my campaign. The free use of its Built Green®
materials saved the County thousands as the Jefferson County Home Builders
Association worked with the Health Department, through a Department
of Ecology grant, to create Built Green® of Jefferson County.
Who's Who in Building Associations?
I'm not the only one in the state whose
opponent (or party) is trying to mix up donations by local building
associations with those from the Building Industry Association of Washington
(BIAW). It seems to be the season...
In a nutshell, I am the executive officer
of the Jefferson County Home Builders Association. My focus is to support
the needs of our very diverse local building industry.
There are 15 other local home building
associations in the state, including the Master Builders Association
of King and Snohomish Counties. We all have our charters through the
National Association of Home Builders.
Also holding a charter is the BIAW. It
is not a parent organization of the other HBAs. As the state organization,
it usually focuses on issues of statewide concerns. It offers membership
resources, legal aid, legislative lobbying, education, group health
insurance plans, and a retrospective ratings program.

Local association staff do not vote or
hold offices within the BIAW. As the 2007 chair of the WA Executive
Officers Council, I facilitated three meetings for the other local HBA
executive officers. We shared common concerns and issues from all across
the state, such as affordable housing, regulations, challenges with
local governments, dealing with BIAW, tax and employee issues, etc.
